PARLIAMENTARY RULES AND REGULATIONS
The National Assembly is empowered by Article 165 (1) of the Constitution to regulate its own procedure and to make rules for that purpose. These rules are known as the Standing Orders of the National Assembly.
The Standing Orders outline procedures for sittings of the Assembly, order of business and introduction of bills, among other matters.
In 2006 the Standing Orders were significantly amended to give Opposition Members of Parliament more opportunities to contribute to the work of the National Assembly.
