Close Finishes in Match Five and Six in Round One of the Speakers National Youth Debating Competition 2022

It was a close finish as the West Bank Young Achievers defeated the Queenstown Youth Group for match five of the morning session of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2022.
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the West Bank Young Achievers, 264 points, and 260 points for the Opposing side, the Queenstown Youth Group.
Their debate centered on the moot: Guyana’s Legislative Framework Provides Limited Protection for Youths.
The Best Debater for match 5 was Mr. Nkosi Jupiter of the West Bank Young Achievers Youth Group.
It was an even closer finish for match 6 in the afternoon session, as both Youth Groups impressed the judges with their forward arguments.
Grove/Diamond Youths in Development narrowly defeated the Port Kaituma Youth Group by a fraction of a point.
The final score reflected 95.7 points for the Proposing Grove/Diamond Youths in Development team, and 95.6 for the Opposing side, the Port Kaituma Youth Group.
Their debate centered on the moot: Prison Reform in Guyana is Effective.
Bibi Wazeeda Yassin of the Grove/Diamond Youths in Development Youth Group was adjudged Best Debater for match 6.
The winning teams from round one will advance to participate in the Annual Youth Parliament.
The Debates will continue on Friday, April 22, 2022.
