The Parliament of Guyana successfully concluded the second day of its highly inciteful Open House event, opening its doors to the public and providing a unique opportunity for citizens to engage with the Speaker of the National Assembly and Members of Parliament.
Building on the tremendous success of day one, which attracted an overwhelming response from schools across the southern district of Georgetown, day two of the Open House continued to captivate attendees with its array of activities and interactive sessions during guided tours of the Public Buildings.
Visiting students from the Sheet Anchor Primary School were given a rare glimpse into the Parliamentary Committee system with a live demonstration of a committee proceeding.
Excitement filled the atmosphere at the conclusion of the meeting as the visiting students engaged with Members of the Economic Services Committee during their guided tour of the Parliament Chamber.
The students took the opportunity to ask questions and posed for a photo op with the Ministers and members of Parliament from both the Government and Opposition benches.
The students also met with former Youth Parliamentarians during the Exhibition.
The Open House event will continue at 10 a.m., June 15, 2023, with a range of activities planned to further deepen public understanding of governance and inspire active civic engagement. Day Three will feature guided tours of the parliamentary chamber and interactive exhibitions to provide visitors with a comprehensive experience of democratic governance and how the departments of the Parliament Office function.
The Parliament of Guyana is the legislative body responsible for representing the citizens and making laws that govern the nation. As a commitment to transparency and citizen engagement, the Parliament of Guyana’s Open House event provides a unique opportunity for all citizens to interact with their elected representatives, gain insights into the legislative process, and strengthen their understanding of democratic governance.
