Helpful Hands Youth Group Secures their place in the Finals of Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2024

The Helpful Hands Youth Group has triumphantly secured their place in the finals of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2024. In the highly competitive semi-final debate (Match One), they emerged victorious against the talented Bygeval Secondary Youth Group, showcasing exceptional debating skills and teamwork.
The semi-final debate held in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown, witnessed a lively exchange of ideas and persuasive arguments from both teams. The Helpful Hands Youth Group demonstrated remarkable eloquence, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the topic, ultimately convincing the judges of their superiority in this round.
The combined average scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the Bygeval Secondary School Youth Group, 188 points, and 197 points for the Opposing side, the Helpful Hands Youth Group.
Both groups demonstrated their uncanny capability to articulate their well-reasoned positions on the moot.
The debate was centered around the compelling moot, "Financial education should be mandatory in secondary schools in Guyana."
Mr Nygil Drepaul of the Winning Helpful Hands Youth Group copped the Best Debater award.
The victory of the Helpful Hands Youth Group not only highlighted their debating prowess but also reflected the spirit of youth engagement and intellectual development promoted by the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition. The competition aims to foster critical thinking, public speaking skills, and a sense of civic responsibility among young people across the country.
