President Appoints Hermina Gilgeours as Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly

His Excellency President Donald Ramotar, on Monday, November 10, 2014, formally appointed Ms. Hermina Gilgeours as Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly. The President issued the instrument of appointment to Ms. Gilgeours, who has been acting in the capacity of Deputy Clerk since the retirement of former Deputy Clerk, Ms. Lilawtie Coonjah, in May, 2013.
Ms. Gilgeours is one of Guyana’s longest serving parliamentary staff, who joined the work of the National Assembly on August 4, 1997. At the commencement of her tenure, she was employed as Clerk II General. She also held the positions of Research and Analytical Assistant and Assistant Clerk of the National Assembly.
Ms. Gilgeours said that she is extremely grateful for such an opportunity to serve Guyana at this high level and expressed sincere gratitude to those who have contributed to her success. “I express my sincere gratitude to God, His Excellency the President of Guyana, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Clerk of the National Assembly, who has been my mentor, Members of Parliament, who have encouraged me in their own special way, my family and my friends. I am thankful for the confidence they have expressed in me to carry out the functions of this office. I have always enjoyed good relations with other parliamentary staff and I am looking forward to their continued support,” she said.
Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Sherlock Isaacs, in an invited comment had this to say about his second in command, “Ms. Gilgeours has been attached to the Parliament for a number of years, where she gained a wealth of experience in parliamentary administration. She is proficient and efficient in her work and the work she produces is always of a high standard. I will continue to work with her closely with respect to parliamentary procedures, among other things, until I am ready to demit office in the not too distant future, I hope.”
The newly appointed Deputy Clerk is the current holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Management and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
