The Parliament of Guyana hosts an Open House to commemorate 70 Years as an Elected Assembly

As part of a series of events to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Parliament of Guyana, the Hon. Manzoor Nadir, M.P., Speaker of the National Assembly, has opened the doors to the public for a Parliamentary Open House during the period June 13 – 16, 2023.
The exhibition commenced today at 10 a.m. at the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown.
Visitors, including students from schools across the Southern District, had an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge about the National Assembly and all the Departments within the Parliament Office during day one of the three-day exhibition.
Departmental booths were stationed on the northern corridors, on the ground and first floors, to display information about their roles and responsibilities.
Visitors explored the iconic Parliament Building through captivating, guided tours led by knowledgeable staff, where they discovered the historical significance, architectural marvels, and rich tradition embedded within these hallowed halls.
Guided tours to the newly named Frank A. Narain Parliamentary Library, and the surrounding compound were also included.
Visitors had full Chamber access as they stepped into the renowned Parliamentary Chamber to witness where elected representatives debate, deliberate, and shape the laws of the land. Here they gained valuable insight into the democratic process and learned about the various roles of Parliamentarians.
With the use of a cellular phone, visitors gained additional information by scanning bar codes situated across the Buildings.
Special prizes were given to those who were attentive during the question and answering segment during the tour.
Other events hosted to commemorate the 70th Anniversary include a football showdown between Team DPL and Team Parliament, the Canadian Eyecare programme, the naming of the Parliamentary Library, and a celebratory Reception.
