In a thrilling clash of intellect and oratory prowess, the University of Guyana Students' Society (UGSS) Tain Campus Youth Group emerged victorious over the Port Kaituma Youth Group, securing the final spot in the highly anticipated semifinals of the Speaker's National Youth Debating Competition 2023.
This virtual matchup captivated the attention of judges and the online audience with the power of persuasive arguments and eloquent delivery.
The combined average scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the (UGSS) Tain Campus Youth Group, 204 points, and 193 points for the Opposing side, the Port Kaituma Youth Group.
Ms. Shakeela Ross of the winning (UGSS) Tain Campus Youth Group won the Best Speaker Award for this matchup.
The debate was centered around the compelling moot "School dorms should be eliminated."
Both teams displayed remarkable research, critical thinking skills, and public speaking abilities, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for victory.
The semi-finals of the Speaker's National Youth Debating Competition are scheduled to take place on July 11, 2023. The four formidable teams vying for a place in the finals are as follows:
