Youth Parliament Preliminary Session on Drafting Motions for the Senior Category of the 6th Annual Youth Parliament

A virtual Preliminary Session on Drafting Motions, for the Senior Category, for the 6th Annual Youth Parliament 2021, was today hosted by the Organising Committee at the Parliament Office.
The Hon. Manzoor Nadir, M.P., Speaker of the National Assembly, during his remarks, stressed the importance of the role of the Youth Members of Parliament and reiterated the seriousness of such a role.
The Session on Drafting Motions was conducted by the Hon. Gail Teixeira, M.P., Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance and Government Chief Whip. The participants were made privy to the knowledge of the types of motions and how to construct them. Minister Teixeira explained the sections of a motion, the Whereas Clauses and Resolved Clauses, and encouraged the youth MPs to think about the aim of their motions when preparing them and to make them relevant to our country.
During this interactive session, Youth MPs were divided into Government and Opposition using a computer software.
Elections for Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition were conducted in breakout rooms. Ms. Malika Russell was elected Prime Minister while Mr. Richard Bhainie the Leader of the Opposition.
The Chairperson for today’s programme was the Parliamentary Executive Officer and Coordinator of Youth Parliament, Ms. Carlleta Charles.
