Rights of the Child Commission Hands Over 2019 & 2020 Annual Reports to Speaker of the National Assembly

The Rights of the Child Commission (RCC) today officially handed over its Annual Reports for the fiscal years 2019 & 2020 to the Hon. Manzoor Nadir, M.P., Speaker of the National Assembly.
The reports were presented by Ms. Aleema Nasir, Chairperson of the Rights of the Child Commission, during a simple ceremony held in the Parliament Chamber at the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown.
The annual reports will be made public after they are tabled at the next sitting of the National Assembly.
This is in accordance with Article 212M (1) of the Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, which states that ‘As soon as practicable after the end of each year of its operation, a Commission shall submit a special report of the activities of the Commission during the proceeding year and the report shall be tabled in the National Assembly within thirty days of its submission if the National Assembly is sitting, if not, at the first meeting of the Assembly thereafter.’
Also, in attendance at the handing-over ceremony were Ms. Hermina Gilgeours, Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly; Mr. Andre Gonsalves, Chief Executive Officer of the Rights of the Child Commission; Commissioners from the RCC, and members of staff of the Parliament Office.
The Rights of the Child Commission continues to play a critical role in advocating for the protection and promotion of the rights and welfare of children in Guyana. These reports highlight key initiatives and actions taken by the Commission over the reporting periods to safeguard the well-being of the nation’s children.
