Unlike whole-chromosome aneuploidy from nondisjunction, the risk for submicroscopic copy number variants is not dependent on maternal age. With these advances in our knowledge and testing capabilities, all pregnant women should be offered prenatal diagnostic testing for chromosome abnormalities.
