16th Auditor General’s Report handed over to Speaker of the National Assembly

Auditor General Mr. Deodat Sharma, on Thursday, 10th December, 2020, handed over the Auditor General’s Report for the fiscal year ended 2019 to the Hon. Manzoor Nadir, M.P., Speaker of the National Assembly.
The Report was handed over a few months after the customary September deadline.
During the presentation ceremony, held in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Mr. Sharma alluded to the hurdles he and his staff faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Auditor General further stated that, due to COVID-19 protocols, decreased working hours limited staff interactions during the audit process. He thanked his staff for their hard work.
Hon. Speaker Nadir, during his remarks at the ceremony, thanked the Auditor General and staff for submitting the Report, noting that the challenges they faced are understandable. Hon. Speaker Nadir further said that the Report will be made public after it is tabled at the next Sitting of the National Assembly.
This is in accordance with Article 223 (3) of the Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, which states that ‘the Auditor General shall submit his or her audit reports to the Speaker of the National Assembly, who shall cause them to be laid before the National Assembly.’
Also present at the handing over ceremony were Hon. Dharamkumar Seeraj, M.P., Hon. Dr. Vishwa D.B. Mahadeo, M.P., Mr. Sherlock Isaacs, A.A., Clerk of the National Assembly, and senior staff members from the Auditor General’s Office and the Parliament Office.
