The Parliament of Guyana is proud to announce the successful conclusion of the Open House: Three-Day Exhibition which took place during the period Tuesday, June 13 to Thursday, June 15, 2023. This momentous event provided an exclusive opportunity for the public to gain valuable insights into the functioning and significance of the Guyanese Parliament.
The Open House Exhibition, organised by the Parliament of Guyana under the Speakership of the Hon. Manzoor Nadir, M.P., aimed to foster transparency, inclusivity and public engagement by inviting citizens from all walks of life to explore the inner workings of the country’s legislative body.
During the first of many guided tours, on the third and final day of the Open House event, students from the Saints Stanislaus College were treated to an extensive interactive session with Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Manzoor Nadir, M.P., which began with a demonstration of the commencement of a Sitting.
Prior to every interactive session with Speaker Nadir, the students were briefed by the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yannick December, on parliamentary etiquette, the history of the Public Buildings and the composition of the National Assembly.
Over the course of three days, over 2000 students and visitors had the unique privilege of witnessing, firsthand, the democratic processes, traditions and institutions that underpin the nation's governance.
The event showcased various aspects of parliamentary operations, highlighting the important role played by elected representatives in shaping Guyana's future. Visitors were able to immerse themselves in interactive exhibits, informative displays and engaging presentations by the parliamentary staff, offering them a deeper understanding of the legislative processes, committees’ work, and the workings of parliamentary sessions and departments.
In addition, the Exhibition incorporated educational activities tailored for students and young people, encouraging them to actively participate in democratic processes and empowering them with knowledge about their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, the Clerk of the National Assembly and members of staff of the Parliament Office extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the Members of Parliament, previous Youth Parliamentarians, visitors, educational institutions, Government agencies, and community organisations which participated in the Open House Exhibition.
The successful culmination of the Open House marks a significant milestone in the Parliament of Guyana's ongoing commitment to transparency, inclusivity and strengthening democratic values. By opening its doors to the public, the Parliament hopes to foster greater understanding, trust and collaboration between the elected representatives and the citizens they serve.
