Honourable Speaker Manzoor Nadir and Delegation met with Honourable Speaker Om Birla and Delegation of India’s Lok Sabha

Hon. Manzoor Nadir, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Guyana, and his Delegation were invited to a meeting by Lok Sabha Speaker Hon. Om Birla during the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament. The meeting was held as a side caucus on Tuesday, 7th September, 2021, where the two Speakers exchanged pleasantries and discussed the close ties between Guyana and India. Hon. Speaker Om Birla pointed out that India is a model democracy, one which had 17 General Elections and 300 Assembly Elections, and that India and Guyana can work together to strengthen their democracies. He also mentioned that our people can learn from each other, both culturally and economically. Hon. Speaker Nadir spoke of the close relationship shared between Guyana and India, highlighting that India is one of Guyana’s largest donors. He also shared that people from both countries can benefit economically and culturally once there is access to opportunities. Both Speakers pledged to continue to have dialogue on strengthening the institution of Parliament in the two countries with exchange programmes to learn from each other's best practices and to maintain the strong bond shared over the years.
