We stand in solidarity with your nation during this time of profound grief. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, as well as with all those affected by this tragedy.
May the people of Guyana find strength, comfort, and unity during these days of national mourning.

GUYANA – MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES FOLLOWING THE SINKING OF THE MV BARIMA
22 July 2026
France extends its deepest condolences to the people and Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana following the sinking of the MV Barima on 18 July. It shares in the grief of the victims, their families, and their loved ones.
In close coordination with the Government of Guyana and the Guyana Defence Force, France deployed on 20 July a reinforcement team of 15 specialists, including military divers and rescue personnel from the French Armed Forces stationed in French Guiana.
France stands in solidarity with its partners and neighbours across the Caribbean, the West Indies, and the Guiana Shield.
