Minister Savitri Sonia Parag, Member of the Bureau of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, in introducing herself and country to the meeting of the Bureau on March 23, 2022, during the 144th IPU Assembly, advocated for greater inclusiveness of developing countries in important bodies such as the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Minister Parag underscored the point that what affects developed countries also affects developing countries and those developing countries also have a lot of experience to bring to the table. These views were welcomed by the Committee as they agreed to make it a point of discussion at the next Assembly.
The Bureau discussed the agenda items for the 145th Assembly and signalled its concurrence with the IPU Strategy (2022 – 2026). The 145th Assembly is scheduled to be held in Kigali in October 2022.
