The Enterprise Young Professionals, the Peer Builders, and the Leguan Progressive Youth Organisation Youth Groups were victorious on day 7 of the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition

It was a nail-biter of a matchup during the morning session of the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2023 as the Enterprise Young Professionals Youth Group defeated the Herstelling/Little Diamond Youth Group in round one, match five for Region 4.
The Best Debater for this matchup was Ms. Razia Alli of the Enterprise Young Professionals Youth Group and the moot for this debate was, “The environment is a myth: pump more oil."
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the Enterprise Young Professionals Youth Group, 192 points (Average), and 191.3 points (Average) for the Opposing side, the Herstelling/Little Diamond Youth Group.
The 11 a.m. session was a thrilling matchup as the Peer Builders Youth Group and the Berbice Youths in Development Youth Group faced off. However, it was the Peer Builders who brought their “A” game for this Region 5, round 1, match 1 debate.
The moot for this debate was, “Flood victims who refuse to relocate should not be compensated.”
The Best Debater for this match was Mr. Ronson Harte of the Peer Builders Youth Group.
The young Harte, 14 years old, is the youngest participant in this year’s Debating Competition.
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the proposition, the Berbice Youths in Development Youth Group, 199 points (Average), and 203.3 points (Average) for the opposing side, the Peer Builders Youth Group.
During the afternoon session, the proposing side, the Leguan Progressive Youth Organisation Youth Group redeemed themselves by when they defeated the opposing West Bank Young Achievers Youth Group in the Region 3, Round 3 debate.
Mr. Shane Hackshaw won the Best Debater award for that matchup.
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the proposition Leguan Progressive Youth Organisation Youth Group, 193 points (Average), and 161 points (Average) for the opposing side, the West Bank Young Achievers Youth Group.
The weekly debates are scheduled for Tuesday and Friday and will be streamed live on the Parliament of Guyana’s Web, Facebook, and YouTube pages.
