The St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group defeated the Lethem Young Professionals Youth Group in round one, match two for Region 9, during this morning’s session of the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2023.
However, it was Ms. Sheliza Yarde of the Lethem Young Professionals Youth Group who copped the award for the Best Debater for this matchup.
The moot for this debate was, “Hinterland regions are incapable of offering job opportunities.”
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the Lethem Young Professionals Youth Group, 179.5 (Average), and 194.6 points (Average) for the Opposing side, the St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group.
The 9:30 a.m. debate between the Mahdia Secondary School Youth Group and the Green Fingered Youth Environmental Club Youth Group was rescheduled to a date to be announced. Debates for Region 10 and District 11 will commence next week.
