Three Region 4 Youth Groups advance to the next round as the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2023 continues

The Enterprise Young Professionals Youth Group defeated the Youth Arise Youth Group in round two, match one for Region 4, during this morning’s session of the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2023.
However, it was Ms. Amel Griffith of the Youth Arise Youth Group who copped the award for the Best Debater for this matchup.
The moot for this debate was, “Guyanese should directly benefit from oil revenues."
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the Youth Arise Youth Group, 192.1 points (Average), and 199 points (Average) for the Opposing side, the Enterprise Young Professionals Youth Group.
During the 11 a.m. session, the Cummings Lodge Youth Movement Youth Group narrowly defeated the University of Guyana Men’s Action Network (UGMAN) Youth Group.
The moot for this debate was, “Legislation alone will not improve our nation’s mental health.”
A fraction of a point was the decider of this matchup.
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the proposition, the University of Guyana Men’s Action Network (UGMAN) Youth Group, 191.6 points (Average), and 192 points (Average) for the opposing side, the Cummings Lodge Youth Movement Youth Group.
Despite the narrow loss, Ms. Ellen Gopaul from the University of Guyana Men’s Action Network (UGMAN) Youth Group, copped the award for Best Debater for this matchup.
For the afternoon session, the proposing side, the University of Guyana’s Students’ Society (UGSS), Turkeyen Campus Youth Group, defeated the opposing NYAH Foundation Youth Group to conclude the Round 2, Region 4 debates.
However, it was Ms. Adettie McAlmont of the NYAH Foundation who won the Best Debater award for that matchup.
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the proposition, the University of Guyana’s Students’ Society (UGSS) Turkeyen Campus Youth Group, 196 points (Average), and 184 points (Average) for the opposing side, the NYAH Foundation Youth Group.
The moot for that debate was “Corporal punishment should be banned.”
