Three teams register wins to conclude Round 1 for Region 2 in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debate 2023

Team Daniels Youth Group, the Queenstown Youth Group, and the Guyana Kindness Movement Youth Group of Region 2 Advance to the second round in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2023.
The first match-up of the day saw Team Daniels Youth Group outmatch the Sparta Youth Group to secure their spot in the second round.
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, Team Daniels Youth Group, 530 points, and 521.5 points for the Opposing side, Sparta Youth Group.
Their debate centered on the moot: “Multi-party democracy is the best form of governance.”
The Best Debater for this match-up was Ms. Ashley Mohamed of the Team Daniels Youth Group.
For the second match-up in the morning session, the Opposing Queenstown Youth Group garnered 451 points to topple the proposing Charity Police Youth Group.
The moot for this debate was, “Guyana should have remained dependent.”
The Best Debater for this match was Ms. La Tonya Alves of the Queenstown Youth Group.
In the afternoon session, the Guyana Kindness Movement Youth Group was the last of the victors in Round 1 for the region 2 match-ups when they defeated the Anna Regina Youth Group.
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, Anna Regina Youth Group, 173 points, and 217 points for the Opposing side, the Guyana Kindness Movement Youth Group.
The moot for this debate was, “Carbon credit markets will not last.”
The Best Debater for this match was Ms. Angelita Chattergoon of the Guyana Kindness Movement Youth Group.
The three winners will join the Good Hope Youth Group next week to vie for the final two spots for Region 2.
